September – Don’t Forget Pirate Day

The Brouhaha

Alright, alright, alright! August saw us work through the Elevator Accelerator, find new directions, strategize and begin a new push into the public sector and start to play in our new office. Life is looking up. The best part is that September 19 is International Talk Like a Pirate Day, my favourite holiday!

Elevator Accelerator – Dundee

The biggest news this month is our ‘graduation’ from the Elevator Accelerator in Dundee. We spent the programme working on fine tuning our ideas and businesses leading up to a packed out showcase where Wittin got to pitch to a wide array of audience members. I call this out because the interesting conversations it brought up particularly in areas that are outside our current remit at the moment were very interesting.

As fate would have it my Mom was able to attend and she told me my pitch was amazing. So there you have it if it’s good enough for my Mom its good enough for you to hire Wittin!

Big Pharma

One of those interesting conversations we had at the Elevator Showcase was about looking through large swathes of data for companies and aiming to generate value out of old, archived or previously overlooked data. Specifically, we discussed looking at failed clinical trial data from large-scale pharmaceutical companies and exploring the generation of revenue through matching this data with research and external companies.

If anyone knows someone working with data or available to sit down with us we’d love to explore this idea to see its value.

Public Sector Big Push

So we’re moving into pushing out into the public sector. We’re confident in our abilities with the 8 projects we’ve got involved with so far, now let’s see if we can help more public sector organisations. We’ve learned through all of our projects that everything begins with a cup of coffee. So if you work in the public sector or if you know someone that works in the public sector, send us the contact details. We will buy you a coffee and have a chat. You can even order a coffee with extra whipped cream, marshmallows and a sparkler!

New Office

We’ve decorated and have been working on getting our office ready for our first office party. It’s going to be amazing. We haven’t confirmed this, but from my experience in Scotland, I think we’re going to be able to throw the first keg party in the country. I’ll need to track down some Red Solo cups.

However, I did learn just exactly how high up the rafters are in our office the other day. Six meters up dangling off a ladder and still another four meters away from the roof was not the most fun I’ve ever had, but the resulting art project looks pretty cool.

If you’ve received an invite you’re absolutely welcome to come, if you haven’t you’re welcome as well. Free booze and nibbles available. We’ll be opening doors from 6 pm to 8 pm on Thursday 6 September. We’re based in the Chambers Building, 1-2 Panmure Street, Dundee, DD1 1EP.

We’re here to chew gum and fix government and we’re all outta gum!

Born into the wilds of mid-western America, Matthew has lived his life creating. The kind of kid that bought a tarp, some PVC pipe and a skate board; fashioned himself a windsurfing set-up and then saw an opportunity in a local tornado. "Sorry Mom." Undergraduate in Art and Design, Doctorate in Scottish History, Matthew came late to the realisation that if he's going to use his diverse skill set he'd have to employ himself.
